NEW YORK, NY – A new report from LinkNYC, the world’s largest free public Wi-Fi network, shows the program provided more than 205 million free Wi-Fi connections and over 5 million free phone calls — including 96,000 calls to the NYS EBT helpline — in 2024. During the AT&T outage in February 2024, LinkNYC powered more than 760,000 free Wi-Fi sessions and over 13,000 free calls in a single day.

“In under a decade, LinkNYC has become an icon of New York City’s streetscape,” said Nick Colvin, CEO of LinkNYC. “Millions of our neighbors pass a Link every week — we’ve transformed the way New Yorkers engage with City government, community businesses, and each other, all while driving more than $1 billion in economic activity.”

Beyond providing free and expanded connectivity, LinkNYC supported 655 jobs and more than $98 million in labor income for hard-working New Yorkers in 2024 alone. Last year, LinkNYC’s LinkLocal program also donated over $4 million in free ad space on LinkNYC screens for more than 1,300 eligible New York City-based small businesses and nonprofits to help bolster the city’s local economy.
